All students need to achieve five 9-4 grades at GCSE (or BTEC equivalents). Individual subjects will require a grade 5 if studied at GCSE. The exceptions to this are Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics which will usually require a grade 6 at GCSE.
It is compulsory for students who have yet to achieve a grade 4 in either GCSE Maths or GCSE English Language to retake these qualifications in Year 12 and if necessary, again in Year 13.
We are one of the few schools to offer a Aspirations Pathway course in Year 12 for those students who do not meet the 5 9-4 grades. This pathway supports students in achieving the requirements that would potentially allow them to progress on to Level 3 study in years 13 and 14 doing A Levels. Students on the pathway course will study two Level 2 BTEC subjects alongside Maths and English resits if necessary over 1 year.
From September 2025 we will also be running blended courses, which means that students who do not get five 9-4 grades but have at least 3 9-4 grades would be able to complete 2 level two courses and one A level.
